Nearing the 10lb Goal

I’m nearing my second 10 lb goal as a part of joining weight watchers. There are so many rewards for loosing this weight and exercising. I look better, I feel healthier, I am in less pain, and I have greater endurance. Even thinking seems easier, though that’s more likely attributable to the exercise and the decreased stress, as well as the altered blood flow to my brain than the decrease in weight.

A month after starting my 3 month journal with weight watchers I find that I have also dropped an inch and a half off of my waist line, and half an inch off of my hips, actually putting me at the point where my waist is narrower than my hips, and I can rely on that fact. Not only is this a great for my appearance and comfort, but it means that I have transitioned from having an “apple” body shape to having a “pear” body shape. While both body shapes are a negative indication for your health, the apple body shape is far more so.

I definitely intend to claim an extra reward sticker at weight watchers later this week.

Besides all of these natural rewards for what I’m doing, I have been giving myself a reward at every 5lb mark. This time I am going to get myself either a Gameboy DS, in order to play the various educational and mind teasing games available for that particular system, or I make a raid of the online store of one of my Favorite web comic artists, Syke.

Syke draws not only her flagship comic of Alien Dice, but also a universe of comics that I enjoy even more, the Cyantian Chronicles. She currently has for sale some book/grocery bags. I don’t really like hauling things around in toss away bags that break at the touch of the edge of a butter knife, and even though I recycle mine at the local Walmart, it would still be better for the environment if I didn’t need to use them at all. I’d also grab several of her compiled graphic novels, and a few other products I have been wanting.

I’m currently trying to decide between the two. Then again, since I’ve met yet another of my goals, perhaps I should do both. Any advice or comments would be well appreciated.

Congrats on the 10LB mark! I know you’re gonna make it, even if you’re not following my self-proven 50 LB method of chicken tenders, chimichangas and RC cola, and an exercise regimen of heavy stress. ^^ Good deal, either way.

Oh, and why ya knockin’ the plastic bags? They’ve already done away with the good paper ones! Don’t go givin’ them a reason to nix the plastics, too! I don’t like the idea of having to byob (Bring Your Own Bag).

    Thank you!

Any ideas/advice on the the reward(s?) to select for myself?

And I’m knocking them because it takes oil to make the material to make them, and nonrenewable resources to make them. It does for more durable plastic shopping bags too, but I can keep reusing those for a really long time if I get durable ones. While I can recycle the lighter plastic bags, some of the material is waisted with each recycling, and it takes energy (again) to recycle them. I also have to remember to bring them in to Walmart and recycle them. They are also semi-transparent and rather flimsy.

I’m not telling the grocery stores to remove them entirely. I’m just saying that I, personally, am looking at getting some items that will be better for me to shop with. Better for me, and better for the environment.

Something to take to the range is always fun. Well, if you have money for the range trips. A .22 for plinking is a good thing to, uh, shoot for. They’re real fun, great stress relief, and help build a skilll.

As for the bags, your argument says it all, they use oil, they’re not cost-effecient to recycle, and I’ve seen protesters protesting against them. Still, they’re more cost effective, and if we can wean ourselves off foreign oil, and start depending on foreign corn, we might have a chance (Bioplastics, yo.). I miss paper, though, it’s renewable, it’s recyclable, and I pack the things with tinder and flamable lint for when I go camping. They make starting fires easy in a good way. Do that with plastic and it just STINKS.

While I am interested in learning to shoot a gun well, and eventually carrying one, and feel that I may be responsible enough to own one, I wish to advance further down the path of unarmed self defense training and health before I pursue the armed path. If I pack, I want to minimize temptations to pull the gun as much as possible, as well as be able to defend myself in close quarters from attempts to remove it from my person.

Time is also an issue. Between wanting to advance my career, get into a masters program, and still keep loosing weight and improving my health through exercise I’m not sure I’d be able to find the requisite range time, especially since the only handgun range I am aware of in my area is on the other end of the city.

While I do want to eventually get in some range time with my own piece, that one is going to have to wait. If you have other suggestions, I’d love to hear them though.

As for the paper bags, many of the stores I shop at still have paper bags available. You just need to request them, or they will automatically assume you want plastic, or just give it to inattentive customers because they are cheaper to make.

As I do my conditioning for a 20 mile bike ride for Diabetes I will likely get myself to the point where I can comfortably ride it not only to the nearby mini-grocery store (which I can already do), but also to further ones for groceries. When I do that I will likely either use my own reusable bags (that I hope will fill the pannier well) or ask for the paper bags it was designed to hold, as that will maximize my carrying capacity per pannier.

When I go to the local store for a few items I have already taken to using my pannier as my grocery bag.

Paper bags also make a great place to let cookies cool after baking them. It insulates any surface you’re on, and absorbs some of the fat out of the cookie, making them just a toooouch healthier.

Congratulations! Keep up the good work. Take which ever reward is most important to you!

    Thank you.

I’ve decided to get both actually, since I hit two of my goals.
And yes, that means I did hit the 10 lb weight loss goal. I actually hit it right on the button, down to 1/10 of 1 lb.

I just need to decide on what from that online store I want, since I know the items vary in quality some by manufacturer.
