A New Apartment

I have to admit that I haven’t been paying as much attention to my blog lately as I should have. However I do have a fairly good set of reasons. First, there is my recent birthday, and all that entails.

But I have also been apartment hunting. I recently found one, applied for it, and it is on hold for me. I will be taking possession of it later this week. It’s a 2 bedroom 1 bath, and is very reasonably priced, costing less than many 1 bedroom apartments in the area, and having more room than most 2 bedroom 2 bath apartments in the area. It has all the utilities payed except for electric (it’s an all electric building) and several amenities that were relatively hard to find in the are as well.

It’s only about 15 minutes from work as well, and is very nearby one of my favorite recreation areas. I’ll be saving a ton of money on gas, and loads of travel time. Of course I will probably still visit my family often, but without a room of my own to sleep in like I had while in college, it will only be day or evening visits.

I am very much looking forward to the freedom of living on my own, and while I know I will have much greater responsibility, I’m looking forward to growing into that as well, especially while I still have the comfort of having a nearby family support structure.

What’s more, the timing of this couldn’t be much better. My Father will be marrying his finance soon, and moving in with her. As often happens when a fellow and a lady move in together, the lady keeps her stuff, and the fellows gets the heave ho. Rather sad considering the great stuff my dad has. On the up side, that means that unlike many people moving out on their own who have to either buy all their own furniture, or get the dregs of the house, I have a huge excess of offers for furniture between my various family members.

I’ll be getting a dining room set, coffee table, and end tables that I remember being around since I was just a scamp playing with action figures, as well as a nice 3 seat leather couch. I’ll also be getting a fold out couch for my new study/work room, so that I can turn it into a guest bedroom if need be.

I’ll also be getting a very nice, durable set of german flatware, silverware, knives, pans, pots, and so forth from various households. I’ll even be getting a DVD player, Washer, and Dryer!

One thing I won’t be getting, though, is any TVs. <.< >.> That’s okay though. I have my own small one for the bedroom, and plan on setting my best computer up as a combined gaming computer / work computer / multimedia machine. And this baby can currently handle it too. I’ve got a really large monitor. Now all I need to do is buy a huge flat-screen TV and get permission to mount it, and I can have a huge multimedia center that I can also game on. Bwahahahahahahahahaaaa!

In any case, this necessitates much packing, cleaning, arranging of utilities, and contacting friends to request labor of the manual variety.

Heh. It’s an apartment, all on one floor. I wasn’t really interested in wasting space on a staircase and have it count as a part of my floor space when they calculate the value. Unfortunately, it’s on the 3rd floor, so I’m going to wind up getting some movers due to all the heavy stuff I have to move.

I’m packing everything up in big boxes as well so that they can be moved quickly… at least as far as things that will go out in boxes rather than the back of my car are concerned.
