Microsoft is not 100% EVIL! *Amazement!*

I was glancing at the capabilities of my MSN Space the other day, when I came across a link at the top of MSN’s site telling me to make the most of every MSN conversation. Curious, I clicked the link, and found that Microsoft has started up a new philanthropic program to combat it’s image as the empire of evil!

One that, due to their not supporting the international browsing standards, I whole heartedly agree with. (Get Firefox!)

Yes, MSN has a new program called I’m, a rather interesting play on the typical abbreviation IM for Instant Messenger. If you go to I’m Home you can sign up for the program, and get more information.

In short, for every conversation you start in MSN, an unspecified portion of that chat will go to a Charity of your choice, off of a huge list. I chose the Red Cross, which has been directly responsible for saving lives for over a century, and which isn’t a foundation devoted to giving big fat pharmaceuticals more money. But there are other causes, like the Boys and Girls clubs of America, the Sierra Club, Stop Global Warming, ect.

I would specifically recommend that you do -not- chose Unicef, for while they’re a clearing house to other charitable organization, distributing money to the organizations that need it most at a given time… something like 40% of the money given to them goes to pay for their overwhelming bureaucracy.

In any case, I’m fairly sure that this is a marketing campaign to get more people to use MSN Live Messenger (or existing users to upgrade to the new version), but if you already use it, I’d really recommend participating.

You can also find this information on the MSN messenger list, on the buttons on the left, with the green i’m button.
