Stuff that bugs me

Friday, March 30th, 2007

One of the things that bugs me is that when people start talking about that “stuff that bugs them” they tend to talk about things that are totally inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. They’re bugged by oh… people that use the word “ain’t” or people who drive slow in the fast lane. And this is a topic that pops up in discussion or on message boards over and over again.

There are a lot of things in this world that bug me, but most of them are things on a large scale…

Microsoft is not 100% EVIL! *Amazement!*

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I was glancing at the capabilities of my MSN Space the other day, when I came across a link at the top of MSN’s site telling me to make the most of every MSN conversation. Curious, I clicked the link, and found that Microsoft has started up a new philanthropic program to combat it’s image as the empire of evil!

One that, due to their not supporting the international browsing standards, I whole heartedly agree with. (Get Firefox!)

Yes, MSN has a new program called I’m, a rather interesting play on the typical abbreviation IM for Instant Messenger. If you go to I’m Home you can sign up for the program, and get more information.

Minus Morgul Needs More Work (Bleep Happens Part 3)

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Well, the RAID on my hard drives degraded again. I rebuilt it, but while I was doing so it was rather hard to use my computer, and there was no bumping going on this time. The drives are huge, but for some reason they don’t want to keep a RAID running well.

I got the drives, my case, my processor, and some accessories (like a built in 3.5″ bay card reader) from Schrock Innovations, a computer repair and web design company. They had a really great sale called their holiday special, where I got the computer at 5% over cost (to cover parts shipping). I simply customized my computer by asking them to take out the motherboard, remove the keyboard/mouse set, and remove the monitor.

Comments Restored

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Well, I finally got around to getting all of the old comments from the old issues of the blog put up.

Like I figured, the time stamps are off from the original comments, as I don’t have a way of editing them.

However after playing around in the back panel, I’ve found a way to make a back up of my blog, so in case any really weird stuff goes down, I’ll have a copy of it.

With computers, bleep happens. (Part 2) A.K.A When the RAID fails.

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Back to the computer Saga.

Once I got my laptop working, it was time to get things up and running on my new Tower, Kusanagi_Makoto. This singular wonder, which I have also come to call Minus Morgol in the back of my head, had a bit of a RAID problem. To be more accurate, it had a RAID 5 array that ceased to function.

With computers, bleep happens. (Part 1)

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Well, over the last few weeks, I found myself with quite a bit of computer trouble. With both of my Internet capable computers, and due to some other time constraints, like work and sleep, it took quite a while to solve said problems.

Norton had expired weeks ago on my laptop, and so I temporarily installed AVG. Almost immediately afterwards my laptop slowly began to display more and more worrisome symptoms, reminiscent of the virus laden computers I had worked on in the past. So I slotted it for an OS reinstall. Unfortunately, before I got to -that-, my new Tower had a hiccup, and the RAID degraded, and then broke down.

Now, I had a choice. I could either work on my Tower immediately, and wind up possibly needing to use my laptop (virus infected as it was) to fix it, or have to pause mid way through, to change over to my laptop, possibly loosing my place on where I was on the tower. Or, I could try to fix my laptop first, even though it would likely take longer. Since either way, I’d be taking about the same period of time fixing my computers, I went laptop first.

Windows Vista: The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Monday, March 12th, 2007

With all the media attention on Vista and it’s virtues and flaws, I’ve found that there there are a lot of details that seem to have been neglected, or under emphasized.

The majority of the Media attention seems to be on two major things: The annoying built in security “allow or deny”, and how some products from competing companies won’t work with windows off the bat.

However the media seems to forget some basic facts that lead to one of these flaws, and seem to ignore a lot of the more important, more sinister flaws that some of my well-researched friends have pointed out to me.

Shows for Guys vs Shows for Girls

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

I’ve recently been watching a fair amount of Anime and other Saturday morning/weekday afternoon cartoon shows, and I’ve detected some patterns when it comes to shows that are designed for guys, vs shows that are designed for girls, and I find the patterns rather interesting.

Progress on the Blog Fix.

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Well, I’ve got all of the old posts put together, a I’ve gotten the new skin put mostly together over at test blog. I’m going to be showing it at a few forums in the next few days, showing it to friends, and generally asking for any more tips people may have, then I’ll likely be switching this blog over to using that one.

Recent Problems with the Blog

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Some of you that have visited my blog recently may know that there have been some problems as of late on my blog, and may notice that some of the entries, and all of the comments have disappeared. I’m working on fixing the problems, and hopefully my blog should be running in tip top condition by the end of the weekend.

By clicking on the link “Read More” below, you can see my explanations of the most recent problems, and what I’ve been doing to fix them, and what I will be doing to fix those of them that remain. Hopefully if you create a blog using Nucleus CMS, you can avoid some of the problems I’ve had with it, or fix them using the information I’ve provided.
