New Blog, New Chair, New Computer
Here I sit, writing in my new blog, sitting on a recently reupholstered chair, writing an entry into my new blog!
As you can probably guess, I have recently completed installing my computer. At the moment she’s running like a dream, and with only one window open I feel the power… not being used.
When I get home today I’ll definitely need to put Kusanagi-san here through her paces, and test her out using various pieces of software. First two pieces of software out the door to test her with will be Adobe Photoshop, and StarCraft. From there, I’ll move on to other games and pieces of enterprise software.
There were some snags during the Install. This computer configuration was a ‘from scratch’ build, but that’s mostly because I purchased an at cost system from work (Schrock Innovations.com), but returned the motherboard, which I had mis-read the stats on. I had to remove all of the components to get the boards swapped, and so installed everything from scratch, including the RAID and the OS, and I had to buy a new Video Card as the video card of the old system was an integrated one. So Mikoto here is my own creation and a built from the ground up PC.
Because of this particular configuration, I had to call in to Microsoft to get a confirmation code regarding the new system. It was quite painless once I told them the new install was due to a motherboard upgrade and system wipe, and confirmed that my copy of the OS was not installed on any other systems.
I installed the Google Pack to get Firefox and Adaware, and decided to try out Google Earth and get a self-updating copy of Adobe Reader 7 and the Google tool bar installed out of the deal.
Oh, a little tip: If you get the Google Tool bar for Firefox, don’t install the page rank checker, even if you want it. There’s an Add On called “Live Page Rank” that displays the same green bar that the Google Tool bar does, but also displays the exact number, so that you don’t have to do a mouse over the tool bar every time you want to see the exact page rank. You can easily find it by going to Bookmarks -> Mozilla Firefox -> Customize Firefox, then searching for “Live Page Rank”.
